The Netherlands Authority for Consumers and Markets (ACM) has drawn up a policy rule on the provision of information about internet speeds. The policy rule offers the interpretation of the ACM regarding the different internet speeds which internet providers need to communicate for new and existing contracts of business end-users.
The speed of a connection is expressed in the amount of data per second that can be transported across this connection. Eurofiber provides a standard internet service with speeds varying from 50 Mb/s up to 10 Gb/s. The contracted speed of the connection provided by Eurofiber determines the provided maximum internet speed. The Internet service is always provided symmetrically. In a symmetrical connection, the upload speed is equal to the download speed. Upload refers to the connection or traffic from the client to the internet, while download refers to the connection or traffic from the internet to the client.
Overbooking is when a service, bandwidth or availability is shared with multiple clients. Eurofiber assigns much more capacity to its services than its clients actually use. However, the internet itself is already an overbooked service. The internet is an open network that is used by all users at the same time.
The internet is becoming increasingly important for economic traffic. Eurofiber recommends that clients estimate in advance what financial damages would be incurred in case of connection failure, and consider based on that estimate whether it would be prudent to arrange a redundant connection. Eurofiber can provide redundant connections to ensure high availability.
