Access to the internet has become a primary requirement for many organizations nowadays. Whether it's regular internet traffic or e-commerce websites, an interruption in internet access not only causes inconvenience but also results in revenue loss. Cybercriminals and malicious hackers are also aware of this. They attempt to disrupt the internet traffic of organizations and their websites using Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) attacks, among other methods. To counteract this, an anti-DDoS service has been included in Eurofiber's standard offering for business internet.

Unfortunately, it's a phenomenon that organizations and consumers are regularly confronted with. Hackers or cybercriminals bombard websites or corporate networks with a large amount of traffic. As a result, banking sites become inaccessible, making internet banking impossible. Or an internet service provider faces such an attack, resulting in hundreds of thousands of businesses and consumers losing internet access. These are examples of real-world DDoS attacks. According to the most recent annual report from the National Internet Providers Management Organization, the number of DDoS incidents is not only growing in total numbers but also in the intensity of the attacks, with all its consequences.

Anti-DDoS Driven by Customer Demand

'The growing threat of DDoS attacks prompted Eurofiber to introduce its own anti-DDoS service,' says Jeroen Verheijen, commercial product manager at Eurofiber Group. 'Our customers are asking for it. They are facing a growing number of DDoS attacks. And at the same time, they are becoming increasingly dependent on internet access and the availability of their websites. In official government tenders, an anti-DDoS service has already become a fixed component. That's why we started developing our anti-DDoS service over a year ago.'

Integral Component

Whereas other market players offer anti-DDoS as an optional service, Eurofiber has chosen to make it an integral part of its internet offering. Verheijen explains, 'We offer it in two variants. Firstly, there's the basic version. This is a reactive service. If the customer experiences abnormal behavior in internet access or the availability of their websites, they contact our Network Monitoring Center. We then investigate what's going on. This allows us to quickly determine if there's an attack. Together with the customer, we decide what measures need to be taken. For example, temporarily blocking internet traffic to a specific IP address or closing a network port for a few minutes. Experience shows that this often quickly stops a DDoS attack.'

Premium with Scrubbing Center

The second variant of the anti-DDoS service goes a few steps further, explains Jeroen Verheijen. 'This premium service also includes a so-called "Scrubbing Center" for internet traffic. Our network has built-in DDoS detection. As soon as such an attack is detected, we automatically redirect suspicious data traffic to the scrubbing center. It filters out malicious IP traffic. This ensures that the customer can rely on the availability of their websites or access to the internet without disruption.'

Eurofiber offers Anti-DDoS Basic in four of the seven business internet variants. The remaining three configurations are provided as standard with the premium anti-DDoS service. Customers can also opt for this premium variant as an option.
