Vattenfall Eurofiber becomes a wholly owned subsidiary of Eurofiber group in the Netherlands
Eurofiber is acquiring the shares held by Vattenfall Wärme Berlin AG in their joint venture, Vattenfall Eurofiber. In future, Vattenfall Eurofiber will be a wholly owned subsidiary of the Dutch group, making Eurofiber the sole shareholder of the Berlin-based company.
As a leading provider of connectivity solutions, Eurofiber will be acquiring the shares held by Vattenfall Wärme Berlin AG in their joint venture, Vattenfall Eurofiber. From the earliest days of the joint venture back in 2021, it had been agreed that Eurofiber would eventually acquire the majority of shares. The company aims to provide fiberoptic access to at least 500,000 households and businesses. To achieve this goal, Vattenfall allowed use of its tunnel system in Berlin, covering over 700km, while Eurofiber contributed its expertise as a digital infrastructure provider to the joint venture.
Founded in 2000, Eurofiber has extensive experience in building and operating large-scale fiberoptic networks in urban centers in the Netherlands, France, Belgium and Germany.
Despite the shift in ownership structure, Eurofiber and Vattenfall will continue to work together moving forward. The company retains the right to use Vattenfall’s tunnel infrastructure for fiberoptic expansion. At this point, around 75,000 households already have the opportunity to switch to the fiberoptic infrastructure offered by Eurofiber, thanks to open access through one of the partner providers.
The acquisition does not involve any changes for business customers or end users of Vattenfall Eurofiber.
