Eurofiber landing partner in extension IOEMA submarine fiber optic project

IOEMA Fibre Ltd. has announced an extension to its High-Capacity Data Backbone project for Northern Europe, adding two new landing points to their submarine fiber optic system. Eurofiber will be the nominated partner for a new landing point in the Rotterdam area, in addition to our partnership with IOEMA for the Eemshaven landing point.

The project company, IOEMA Fibre Ltd., was, after 4 years of project development, founded in 2023. IOEMA is a state-of-the-art, high-capacity, 1600 km repeatered submarine fibre optic project that will arc across five key northern European markets – the UK, Netherlands, Germany, Denmark and Norway. The multicore 48-Core pair system will support a minimum overall capacity of 1.3 Pb/s.

In May 2024, IOEMA presented their project including its partnership with Eurofiber and QTS  for the Eemshaven landing point. Now, in close collaboration with the Dutch Subsea Cable Coalition and its partners, IOEMA has chosen to add a brand-new landing point in the Rotterdam area to the system. With Eurofiber once again as their landing partner, they secure the project of onward connectivity and distribution to 200+ Datacenters and over 10,000 business locations on its 70,500km fiber network in the Netherlands, Belgium, France and Germany.

Eckhard Bruckschen, CTO of IOEMA Fibre Ltd., says: “Several Data Centres, ISP’s, network operators and IX’s have contacted IOEMA since our launch. Such high levels of interest within this region have therefore contributed and endorsed the decision to add another landing point in The Netherlands.”

Rhoderick van der Wyck, Managing Director Eurofiber International, says: “Eurofiber is proud to be IOEMA’s partner for Rotterdam and Eemshaven. This new submarine cable contributes to strengthening the digital business climate in the Netherlands and further ensures high-quality connectivity and more redundancy in the digital infrastructure of the Netherlands, thus clearly highlighting our motto “Eurofiber, lifeline for the digital society”.
