The cloud is the destination, but how you get there is more important

Everyone wants to be in the cloud! And there are good reasons for that. Many applications today are only available in the cloud. However, internet connections are by no means always up to coping with this growing usage. And what good is the cloud without a reliable, high-performance, secure connection? Not much use at all, right?

There are many reasons to go to the cloud:

  • It increases your flexibility
  • It gives you time to focus on other critical developments
  • It saves you money

But, going to the cloud sometimes results in disappointment. The road to the cloud is what determines the success you have in that cloud. So you need a reliable, redundant and secure road to that cloud.

An estimated 95% of companies use services in a private or public cloud. About half combine both private and public clouds. They have a lot of good reasons for doing this. But although many companies are using the cloud and more companies are using the cloud in a hybrid or multi-cloud way, this doesn’t always result in the expected success.

User experience and performance

The cloud increases your flexibility. It gives you time to focus on other critical developments. It can save you money. There are many reasons to use the cloud. But the bottom line is that although the cloud is a great destination, how you get there is more important. Because the way you get to the cloud, or move between clouds, determines the user experience and the performance of your cloud applications. This isn’t an area for penny-pinching, as it keeps you flexible and allows you to grow and scale up when you need to.

During the coronavirus crisis, the use of many cloud services has increased significantly. The use of video, for example, has grown exponentially. But the thing is, if you use the internet to access a cloud application, you’re completely dependent on the quality of the connection. It’s an element you’ve no control over. In practice, I’ve seen how companies trying to cope with increased cloud usage have decided to resize their connectivity in line with their changing needs. This isn’t a luxury — guaranteed bandwidth ensures short response times and leads to an optimal user experience.

High-speed network

Because that’s the catch: if you want the cloud to work optimally for you, you have to be literally always on. And that can be a challenge, especially when you run applications with a high I/O volume. Connectivity is the key to success here: only a high-speed network with unlimited bandwidth and near-zero latency offers a worry-free user experience in the cloud.
